Breaking the old mould

At 92 Warren Buffett is still viewed as one of the best brains in the world of finance, while Charlie Munger 99, he’s long time friend and investment partner, still serves as vice chairman. Evergreen Morgan Freeman , at 85, has 5 movies in production and 85 year old Jane Fonda is busy as always in her double careers as actress and activist.

Despite undeniable proof of the value older people can bring to the workplace, rumours stubbornly persist that they are less capable, less flexible , or less willing to roll up their sleeves than their younger peers.

Headline stories like ‘College dropout makes it big overnight’ might catch the imagination, but reality is that entrepreneurs and businesses owners for the most attribute their achievements to ‘the experience we gained through many years of hard work’. While less sensational, it’s the proven true and trusted recipe for success in business.

In his book “The Happiness Curve: Why Life Gets Better After 50” Jonathan Rauch, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institute comments: “People are getting to their sixties with another 15 years of productive life ahead, and this is turning out to be the most emotionally-rewarding part of life”. Jonathan adds that “they don’t want to just hang it up and just play golf. That model is wrong.”

The good news is that these unwarranted perceptions are changing. Business owners are realising more and more the value these older workers can add to the workforce, especially in the midst of the current global recession.

Re-ignite is a doorway to a wealth of highly qualified, highly experienced, and highly energetic over 50 employees.

While many employers choose to do their own recruitment and appointment of staff, more and more businesses are realizing that using the services of a recruitment agency has many distinct advantages
